Seeking money from wealthy people, also known as high net worth individuals (HNWI), is among the least understood realm of fundraising. It is not is not ‘ordinary’ fundraising. A random survey, in preparation for this course, of 100 South African non-profit organisations, revealed that only 18% were receiving money from HNWIs. The wealthy give for different reasons and understanding why they give is key to this lucrative source of money.
